Still get this odd behavior with a flashed jb...

Plug in usb....Jukebox hdd runs full speed until dead 15-20 minutes with Ata Error -1

Unplug from usb/plug in charger....Displays "Not Charging" until the screen blanks out, and never recharges no matter how long connected to the charger.

Must remove the batteries and charge externally

full charge..approximately 3-4 hours or so playtime

-------------------------------------------------------
Booting from Archos Firmware Into Rockbox non-flashed

Plug into usb...Hdd starts initially but stops....usability time, for days often a week.

Plug in charger....charges about 7 or 8 hours until I get the Charged Msg.

Full charge-approximately 8 or 9 hours playtime

This has been going on since the original flashed versions were released. I was told to do a complete re-flash to a newer version before but no deal it still displays the same behavior.

Version used-newest daily build
Hdd-40gb Ibm Travelstar

Other than not being able the charge while flashed, rockbox is still great.

Really strange.

There is an issue where the recorder could turn off instead of charging if the batteries are completely depleted. We are trying to fix that. Does it start charging if the batteries are only near-empty?

The 2.3 version of Rockbox has a different strategy for powersaving, with the unfortunate effect that the drive never spins down by itself in USB mode. I'll see if I can remedy this by changing the HD powersave mode before entering USB mode.

However, I can't really explain the bad battery life. I'm sure you have tried all of the disk spindown and poweroff options... I wish I could have your jukebox in my hand to do some measurements.

Near empty I'm guessing this is the case as I do see the charging screen only it displays Not Charging till it vanishes .

Ah I wish I could let you see the Jukebox too...if you remember I had mentioned that music sounded strange on it with some albums...wheras that has been resolved somewhere I'm guessing and sounds fine now.....so I'm guessing I have an oddball recorder.

Anyway thanks for your great work on these devices.

How long does it take until it shuts off?

Probably 5 minutes or so. It displays not charging until the screen gradually fades completely away.

Does it charge if you insert the charger after rockbox has started? What does the battery debug screen say?

I didn't get to test this out...ole Sally just died off with severe solder problems, I took it to the computer repairman and he soldered it up and it worked all of one day and the connections broke again...I buried it lol..looking for something new.
